This Klipsch speaker package includes two R-605FA floorstanding speakers with integrated Dolby Atmos drivers, one R-30C center channel speaker, and two R-50M bookshelf speakers. The 5.0.2 configuration allows for an immersive sound experience without ceiling installation, thanks to the vertical drivers in the R-605FA. The speakers use Tractrix horn technology, TCP diaphragms, and aluminum LTS tweeters to ensure precise sound reproduction across the entire audio spectrum.
The new generation Tractrix horns equip all speakers in this package with a 90° × 90° square geometry. This configuration provides directional control over a wider bandwidth compared to previous versions. The increased external dimensions of the horn allow for better directivity control, especially in high frequencies. This technology, developed by Klipsch since the 1990s, follows a specific mathematical curve that minimizes turbulence at the horn exit.
The 25.4 mm LTS (Linear Travel Suspension) tweeter uses an aluminum diaphragm combined with a Kapton suspension. This remarkably light and rigid polymer allows for linear dome movement throughout its range. The combination of these materials achieves high sensitivity—96 dB for the floorstanding and center speakers, 92 dB for the bookshelf speakers—while maintaining minimal distortion even at high volumes.
The TCP (Thermoformed Crystalline Polymer) diaphragms, covered with braided copper, are an innovation derived from the Reference Premiere series. The steeper cone angle, along with additional reinforcing ribs, improves diaphragm rigidity. This design reduces cone breakup modes at high medium frequencies, ensuring a smooth transition to the tweeter.
Each R-605FA floorstanding speaker integrates two distinct acoustic systems in a single 1017 mm tall cabinet. The main system uses two vertically mounted 165 mm woofers, while a separate upward-firing Dolby Atmos module projects sound toward the ceiling to create height effects through reflection. This configuration eliminates the need for ceiling-mounted speakers while preserving the vertical spatialization of modern soundtracks.
The Atmos module has its own 133 mm woofer and dedicated LTS tweeter, functioning as a standalone speaker with a response from 180 Hz to 21 kHz. The concealed rear connections allow for separate powering of the main and height channels, offering full flexibility depending on your amplifier. The front-firing bass-reflex ports also follow the Tractrix geometry, optimizing airflow to minimize noise even at the lowest frequencies.
The 19 mm thick MDF construction includes an internal reinforcement system that limits cabinet vibrations. The included injected feet ensure perfect stability on any surface, while the removable magnetic grilles reveal or conceal the characteristic copper diaphragms according to your aesthetic preferences.
The R-30C configuration stands out with its use of four 90 mm woofers symmetrically arranged around the central tweeter. This array architecture improves horizontal dispersion while maintaining strict vertical directivity control. The result is an expanded listening area where dialogue remains perfectly clear, even for listeners positioned to the side.
At just 126 mm tall, this center channel easily fits under a TV without obstructing the screen. The front-firing ports allow for placement against a wall or in a TV cabinet without compromising low-frequency response. The 1650 Hz crossover frequency, slightly higher than other models in the package, optimizes tonal consistency during sound panning across the front stage.
The filter uses a tapered array topology specifically designed for center channel speakers. This approach improves midrange definition, a crucial range for voice reproduction. The gold-plated binding posts accept thick cables, allowing for bi-amplification if your setup permits.
The R-50M speakers complete this system with a more traditional yet highly effective approach. The single 130 mm woofer allows for flexible placement on stands, shelves, or wall mounts without the alignment constraints of multi-way models. The rear port requires at least 10 cm of clearance from the wall to function properly, but this configuration provides a low-frequency extension down to 58 Hz, remarkable for speakers of this size.
The 92 dB sensitivity remains high for bookshelf speakers, allowing them to pair with modestly powered amplifiers, including some tube models. The 1560 Hz crossover frequency ensures perfect tonal consistency with the other speakers in the package. The 354 mm tall cabinet includes the same internal reinforcements as the larger models, ensuring minimal coloration even at high volumes.
These speakers work equally well in surround or standalone stereo configurations. Their versatility allows you to start with a 2.0 or 2.1 system before gradually expanding to a full home theater setup.
The 8-ohm nominal impedance and high sensitivity (92-96 dB) make these speakers compatible with nearly all amplifiers on the market. A model delivering 50 watts per channel is sufficient to achieve comfortable sound levels in a 30 m² room. To fully exploit the system’s dynamic capabilities, especially in home theater, an amplifier with 75-100 watts is preferable.
The R-605FA floorstanding speakers, thanks to their front-firing ports, can be placed 15-20 cm from the rear wall. The R-50M bookshelf speakers require more space (minimum 10 cm, ideally 20-30 cm) due to their rear port. The R-30C center channel, with its front-firing ports, can be placed close to a wall or in a cabinet.
The copper coating on the TCP diaphragms is not just decorative. The braided copper increases diaphragm rigidity while maintaining its lightness. This technique improves the piston-like behavior of the cone, reducing distortion and coloration. The magnetic grilles allow you to conceal or reveal this distinctive feature according to your preferences.
This 5.0.2 package is an excellent foundation but requires the addition of a subwoofer for LFE (Low Frequency Effects) in modern soundtracks. The floorstanding speakers reach down to 38 Hz, sufficient for music but not for reproducing the ultra-low bass in action films. A subwoofer from the Reference series would ideally complete the set.
The R-50M delivers remarkable performance in a stereo configuration for rooms up to 25 m². Their response down to 58 Hz provides sufficient foundation for most music genres. Adding a subwoofer is recommended for electronic music or organ enthusiasts, where frequencies below 50 Hz add an extra dimension.
No, the R-605FA functions perfectly as traditional floorstanding speakers if you only connect the main binding posts. Activating the Atmos module remains optional and depends on your amplifier. This flexibility allows you to start with a classic 5.0 system and upgrade to Dolby Atmos later.
The high sensitivity and controlled directivity of these speakers make them effective in spaces from 20 to 50 m². In small rooms, their ability to perform at low volumes while maintaining clarity is an advantage. In large rooms, their high efficiency allows for high sound pressure levels without audible distortion.
